Day 5. Got up relatively early and left Pangkor for next leg of trip, Penang. Ambitions were stifled as the bus out of Lumut to Butterworth (where I'd catch the ferry to Panang) did not leave until 2 pm, so I had a three hour layover. Used it to catch up on blog and eat popsicles.

Took this pictures of the place I was staying before I left. My little hut is on the right.

View of fishing village on east side of Pangkor Island as I'm leaving on the ferry.

The bus trip to Butterworth ended up being really long, and the scenery consisted pretty much of this (pardon the bus window blur):

... with a patch of rubber trees every 10 minutes or so. I guess these palm oil plantations, which is what they were, explain why when I was flying into KL the whole landscape about 20 minutes out looked like dark green needlepoint (dig the analogy).

Finally got to Butterworth around 5 and hopped the ferry to Penang.

View of Penang coming in on ferry.

Found this really cool place Old Penang Guesthouse - more on this later - and went out in search of dinner!

Making my bing

Went to Penang's Little India section for dinner and ordered this bing. Was hoping it would be dosa but it was uttapam.

  1. Bravo! Bruce & Gusta here from Istanbul. Love the Dana Hall hat statement. For the rest of you: There is SO much to see that reminds one how young and insignificant we from the USA really are. Here in Turkey, we have met MANY who feel so good about Obama visiting here and the USA in general over the past few months.
Everywhere we go young children go "Hello" and smile. Some, if they are with certasin groups, cover their faces with hands when they speak to me.
    Again: Bravo Charlotte
